Cooperative Education Institute
The purposes of the Cooperative Education Institute are to foster the idea
of self-help and cooperation, and to promote the voluntary and democratic
cooperative movement through adult education, in order to contribute to
the economic, social, cultural and spiritual development of the people.

Purpose
The Cooperative Education Institute, originally known as the Voluntary
Cooperative Center, was founded in 1962 by Sr. Mary Gabriellas Mulherin,
a Maryknoll Sister.
The Institute, located in Seoul, is a voluntary organization and a school
of adult education which has its own residential and training facilities
for education and training in leadership for social development.

The Cooperative Education Institute provides the following programs:
- Leadership Training
The aim of the leadership education and training program is to motivate
the participants and to provide them with practical and concrete methods
of organizing and developing the human and material resources of their own
villages, communities, occupational groups or association into such
cooperative organizations as credit unions, buying clubs, consumers
cooperatives, medical, housing, agricultural and fisheries cooperatives,
on the basis of need.
- Special Training
The Institute offers training programs to meet specific needs of groups,
locations and development projects
- Extension Work
The Institute provides necessary technical and consultation services
to groups and organizations through extension work.
- Research
The Institute offers action oriented research, together with professional
examination and recommendation for various kinds of development projects.
