Xavier Hee-Sup Park dedicated his life to Korean cooperative movement especially for socially and economically disadvantaged people. His idea of cooperative movement is both a very local reality, with deep roots of in local communities, and very international responding to the needs of human beings.
He believed cooperative movement should provide access to credit or housing, helping save and reinvest in the community or making staple goods more accessible. He helped Korean society fight against poverty in all its forms and contributed to the sustainable development of the communities during 1960s through 1970s.
He provided cooperatives members the opportunity to learn how to negotiate, to lead, to assume responsibilities, to work as part of a group, to cast an equal vote, one person-one vote, with no regard to sex, race, religion or age.
He established the Cooperative education institute in four fundamental beliefs:
  1. Belief in that each person is important
  2. Belief in that every man has the power to become master of his own destiny
  3. Belief in that education which calls for the action is most important
  4. Belief in that self-help and a cooperative spirit are basic to social development
As a conclusion, believing and working toward the four points mentioned above, we shall try our best narrow the gap between the rich and the poor, thus helping people to achieve spiritual and material happiness.
